Episode 4
The Cost of Freedom: Many Options, One Purpose
In this episode we’re exploring what freedom really feels like, not just the highs but the heaviness that can come with letting go. J.Malakhi speaks on how choosing yourself often means grieving who you used to be and the people or patterns that once felt safe. Freedom isn’t just about breaking free, it’s also about sitting with the uncertainty that follows.
This conversation is an invitation to honor the emotional work behind change. J. Malakhi reminds us that releasing old identities and connections takes courage, and that grief can be a sign you’re moving in the right direction.
More than anything, this is a reminder that your purpose isn’t something you have to chase. It’s something you realize right here, right now. Your presence, your choices, your being— they matter. And that’s enough.

Speaker B:Welcome to the Trust Release Allow podcast.
Speaker A:Welcome back to the Trust Release Allow podcast.
Speaker A:So it's been an interesting time.
Speaker A:I think it's been about a month.
Speaker A:Hey, I'm getting better on my time with posting or with recording these podcasts, but I believe it's been about a month.
Speaker A:And I've had a few people reach out via social media asking questions or, you know, with topics or ideas or just questions they have that they wanted me to speak to.
Speaker A:So today I'm planning to actually speak to one of those specific topics, which is connected to the last episode.
Speaker A:What I talked about in the last episode was being able to really trust your flow and trusting your formula.
Speaker A:Because we all have our own formulas when it comes to our lives and how they unfold.
Speaker A:And a lot of times we're so focused on moving forward in our next step that sometimes we forget to reflect on what already works for us, what is consistently works for us, what is our pattern.
Speaker A:And so once you realize your formula, once you realize your pattern, sometimes you can get in this space of like, well, I feel like I have a lot of options.
Speaker A:I feel like there's so many different things I can do, and I'm not sure which path I'm supposed to choose.
Speaker A:I'm not sure what direction I'm supposed to go on.
Speaker A:I'm not sure how I'm supposed to move forward.
Speaker A:And while I get it, if you really think about it, you've also been at that point before in your life as well.
Speaker A:It's not a first time where you didn't know what direction was going to be, the correct direction, but you ended up choosing a path anyways.
Speaker A:And sometimes I think there's this idea that there's one specific route you're supposed to take on your journey.
Speaker A:But if you think about a journey and the whole purpose of a journey, it's to journey, it's to experience, it's to flow.
Speaker A:It's not about finding the perfect route or the specific route for you, because honestly, there might not be one.
Speaker A:It might not be about what is the right decision when it comes to you being Able to flow and be free within yourself.
Speaker A:So when I say the word free, that brings up a lot of different things for me, one of which being the idea of what does it mean to be free?
Speaker A:A lot of us want to be free.
Speaker A:We want to be free from paying bills.
Speaker A:We want to be free from working.
Speaker A:You know, some of us might want to be free from anxiety or depression.
Speaker A:All of this is rightly so.
Speaker A:Sometimes when we get the opportunities to free ourselves from something, it might not be everything on the list, but it might just be one thing.
Speaker A:It could even be something that we perceive as small.
Speaker A:But when we get that opportunity to free ourselves from one thing, it's scary, it's uncomfortable.
Speaker A:It's almost like you get into the space of, should I really be free from this thing?
Speaker A:Who am I to allow myself to move out of this discomfort?
Speaker A:And it's almost like you begin to question, who will I be on the other side of it?
Speaker A:I've moved within this realm for so long.
Speaker A:I've experienced these things that make me uncomfortable.
Speaker A:For so long.
Speaker A:I've made myself small for so long.
Speaker A:Who the hell am I to.
Speaker A:To move beyond this?
Speaker A:And who will I become once I do?
Speaker A:How will I maneuver this world now that I've decided to release these ideologies, these jobs, this living situation, this relationship, these connections, who will I be and how will I maneuver this world?
Speaker A:It's almost like a level of releasing that happens.
Speaker A:And depending on how attached you are to the experience, whether you agree with it or not, whether you enjoy it or not, there's still an experience of grief, y'all, and that's okay.
Speaker A:We hear about being financially free.
Speaker A:We hear about time freedom.
Speaker A:You know, we hear about physical freedom, but how often do we actually talk about what comes with that freedom?
Speaker A:Sounds great, it sounds good.
Speaker A:But what happens when you're used to having very specific structures in your life around certain things?
Speaker A:For example, someone who wants job freedom, they no longer want to work for their corporate job.
Speaker A:And so they're like, hey, I'm going to be an entrepreneur.
Speaker A:I'm going to be my own boss.
Speaker A:And I've seen it a couple of times, y'all.
Speaker A:I've even done it.
Speaker A:I've quit my job.
Speaker A:Be like, forget y'all.
Speaker A:I'm about to get out here on my own, and I'm a figure this thing out for myself.
Speaker A:Never make my own money, and I'm going to be good.
Speaker A:If y'all have ever heard somebody say, hey, you can start a business while you're still Working, you might want to sit with that.
Speaker A:It might not be your way, but it might just be because I learned the hard way that the freedom of.
Speaker A:Of being an entrepreneur, man, if that wasn't the most uncomfortable part of my life, I valued it.
Speaker A:I still value it to this day.
Speaker A:But it allowed me to learn something new about myself and what freedom actually means and looks like.
Speaker A:And what's coming to mind right now is like, freedom isn't free.
Speaker A:There's a price we pay for that as well.
Speaker A:And sometimes the cost of freedom is discomfort.
Speaker A:The cost of freedom is grieving what you've always known.
Speaker A:Sometimes the cost of freedom is having to release people and experiences, connections, jobs, ideologies.
Speaker A:And once you've released something and you've let it go, sometimes it can feel like you're at ground zero.
Speaker A:Sometimes it could feel like you're at the very bottom trying to figure this thing out again in a different way.
Speaker A:And that's also a part of the journey.
Speaker A:That's also a part of the experience you're meant to have.
Speaker A:So when you're looking at your options and you're trying to figure out what direction to go in, because you have so many options, it's okay to be uncomfortable, it's okay to have a little bit of anxiety.
Speaker A:But it's also important to realize that you get to choose.
Speaker A:Whether that's flipping a coin with us doing any meanie miney mo.
Speaker A:Y'all know what I'm talking about.
Speaker A:You get to decide.
Speaker A:Sometimes you choose.
Speaker A:It might look like you sitting with your spirit.
Speaker A:Sometimes it might be you having a dream that motivates you in a certain direction.
Speaker A:But what I found is, for me, even when I thought I made the wrong decision in the moment, in the long run, it actually ended up being the right one.
Speaker A:Because when you think about a journey, it's about the experience.
Speaker A:And no matter what direction you flow in, you're bound to have an experience that is going to teach you about yourself, that is going to teach you about the world and the people around you, that is going to allow you to see that.
Speaker A:A lot of times we're searching for purpose and how to live out our purpose and what we're supposed to be doing, not realizing that you don't have to do anything in order to live out your purpose.
Speaker A:All you have to do is show up.
Speaker A:Wherever you decide to show up on your journey, whatever direction you decide to go in, go in that direction fully and show up fully.
Speaker A:It's not about you doing anything.
Speaker A:It's about you being the world today will have you thinking, well, I got to figure out my purpose.
Speaker A:I got to figure out who I'm supposed to be, where I'm supposed to be at, and what I'm supposed to do to change this world.
Speaker A:You existing creates a ripple in the pond.
Speaker A:You existing is what ultimately changes the world around you, just your existence.
Speaker A:Many times we don't realize that purpose isn't something you find, it's something you discover.
Speaker A:And if you're discovering already exists, it's not lost, it's already in existence.
Speaker A:Your purpose for who you are is already in existence, and you're already doing it.
Speaker A:But discovering what that means might mean actually bringing more awareness to the things that you're already doing.
Speaker A:That's another thing I found.
Speaker A:When it comes to us feeling like we have options, what direction am I supposed to go in that is going to be the right direction that is going to allow me to fulfill the life purpose I'm supposed to feel.
Speaker A:And I'm laughing because, Ayo, what if I told you that you showing up in the world and existing, you being alive, is you fulfilling your purpose?
Speaker A:That's it.
Speaker A:You don't got to do nothing else.
Speaker A:You being alive, the essence of who you are and showing up in that daily is you fulfilling your purpose.
Speaker A:I want you to think about this.
Speaker A:Just vibe with me, but I want you to think about this.
Speaker A:What if people told you about yourself and the things you've done to help change their lives?
Speaker A:And I'm not talking about anything big.
Speaker A:I'm not talking about getting a huge testimony, though some of you may.
Speaker A:But what are the little things people say to you on a pretty regular basis about how you've impacted their lives?
Speaker A:What are the things people thank you for that you're like, why are you thanking me for this?
Speaker A:How often do you experience people saying, hey, you being around has changed my perspective on something.
Speaker A:And you end up looking at them like, yo, what are you talking about?
Speaker A:I didn't even do anything.
Speaker A:Those are the moments where you're able to see how you're already living, breathing, showing up in your purpose.
Speaker A:Because it's not an act of doing.
Speaker A:It's not something that you always have to think about.
Speaker A:Honestly, a lot of times you don't think about it at all.
Speaker A:And that's a part of the confusion we've been led to believe that purpose is something we have to figure out.
Speaker A:It's something we have to get on the right track in order to flow within.
Speaker A:And I'm telling you now that's not the truth.
Speaker A:You, in this very moment, of who you are right now and how you exist in the world right now, are living in your purpose.
Speaker A:Even if you feel like there's certain parts of yourself you keep to yourself, you're still living and moving within purpose.
Speaker A:So it's not a question of what track do I need to be on so that I could find and live out my purpose.
Speaker A:No, it's a different question you need to ask yourself.
Speaker A:How am I already existing within my purpose?
Speaker A:How am I already showing up within my purpose?
Speaker A:And with all these options that I have on my plate, which one feels the most aligned with who I am, who I'd like to become?
Speaker A:Or which one feels the most exciting?
Speaker A:Which one feels like it might be the most challenging?
Speaker A:Any way you flip it, turn it, you get to decide.
Speaker A:And I'm gonna tell you one more thing.
Speaker A:There's no such thing as a wrong decision, because you're going to learn something from it regardless.
Speaker A:And with that, I hope you all have a wonderful week.
Speaker A:I hope you're able to sit with and reflect on what I've shared today.

Speaker A:I release.
Speaker A:I allow.
Speaker A:I trust that I'm already living within my purpose.
Speaker A:I trust that I'm already fulfilling my purpose.
Speaker A:I release the idea that I have to go in a specific direction for me to be purposeful.
Speaker A:I release the idea that I have to do in order to make more sense of my purpose.
Speaker A:And I'm allowing things to unfold no matter what path I choose.
Speaker A:I'm allowing myself to live.
Speaker A:I'm allowing myself to show up fully, no matter the circumstance.
Speaker A:I trust.
Speaker A:I release.
Speaker A:I allow.
