Taking a Break: Why Living Life is Essential for Authenticity

This episode of Trust Release Allow explores the profound impact of taking time for self-reflection and the importance of authenticity in personal growth. Speaker A candidly shares their journey over the past months, emphasizing that sometimes stepping back is essential to truly live life and gain meaningful experiences. The discussion highlights how social media can create unrealistic comparisons and expectations, urging listeners to recognize that much of what they see is curated and not reflective of real life. Instead of adhering strictly to external advice or prescribed methods, the episode encourages individuals to find their own unique paths and meditative practices that resonate with them personally. Ultimately, it’s a reminder to trust oneself and embrace the journey of self-discovery, as true wisdom often lies within.

Welcome to the Trust Release Allow podcast.

Speaker A:

I know, y'all.

Speaker A:

I know, I know, I know, I know.

Speaker A:

It's been a minute, all right?

Speaker A:

It's been more than a minute.

Speaker A:

It's been, what, six, seven, eight months since the last time I recorded.

Speaker A:

I appreciate y'all for still vibing with me, still showing up, still listening.

Speaker A:

And do I have a good reason for why it's taking me so long to upload?

Speaker A:

I mean, sure, but the truth of the matter is sometimes you just have to take time away to actually live life, to really experience life without putting a lot of pressure on yourself to do certain things.

Speaker A:

So I took a step back and I decided, you know, I'm going to show up authentically to the best of my ability, as I feel called to do so.

Speaker A:

And for a while, I just ain't feel called to record anything.

Speaker A:

But what I realized is I have this saying that I usually tell people that I work with some of my coaching clients.

Speaker A:

I tell them a lot of times the experiences you're having in this moment are not going to make sense until you look back at them, until you take that time to truly reflect on them.

Speaker A:

And so now I'm sitting in the seat of my own coaching clients and I'm doing the reflection for myself.

Speaker A:

Over this last year, I feel like I've had multiple years in one.

Speaker A:

I've had multiple experiences in one.

Speaker A:

And as I'm recording right now, I realized that I needed that time away to have the experiences so that I could share from that space, so that I could give feedback and hopefully help guide others as I'm maneuvering for myself.

Speaker A:

One of the things I did have to sit with throughout this situation is the fact that social media is not real.

Speaker A:

And I say that because so many of us knowingly or unknowingly and subconsciously compare ourselves to what we see on social media.

Speaker A:

We have a perception based on what we see on social media.

Speaker A:

Some of us have even created expectations for ourselves based on the things that we've seen on social media.

Speaker A:

Not realizing that just like you go to the movie theater and watch a movie, a Majority of the things we see on social media is curated.

Speaker A:

It's been curated to any to evoke a certain emotion.

Speaker A:

It's been curated to get you to want to move and do something.

Speaker A:

It's all psychological in a lot of ways.

Speaker A:

With me having this opportunity to take that time and sit and pull back and really pay attention and realize I started to see that there are a lot of people, not just me, who easily got caught up in this idea of needing to show up in a certain way to feel valid, needing to do things in a specific way to feel valid.

Speaker A:

There's so many coaches and gurus and different types of people online trying to sell you different things and telling you, hey, if you want to get from point A to point B, you have to do it in this way.

Speaker A:

If you want to be this kind of person, you have to do it in this way.

Speaker A:

And while it's fine and dandy to have a mentor or a guide, you also have to remember a lot of this stuff is curated.

Speaker A:

And while some of the advice to the inside might be helpful, a lot of times the questions that you're seeking answers to are found within.

Speaker A:

And some people might be able to help you figure out how to go within for yourself.

Speaker A:

But a lot of times people are giving you recipes to cakes when you over here trying to make a sandwich, and not just any cake, they're giving you the recipe today, favorite cake, when the thing that's going to truly nourish you is a sandwich.

Speaker A:

So let me take that a step further.

Speaker A:

One of the things I've seen a lot of times is people talk about meditation and wanting to learn how to meditate, or feeling like they don't know how to meditate.

Speaker A:

And then you have individuals telling them, like, well, you need to sit like this, you need to cross your legs, you need to pay attention to your breath, and you need to stop thinking.

Speaker A:

And it's like, yo, that might be meditation that works for you, but I know for sure that sort of meditation does not work for me.

Speaker A:

So there's a possibility that it might not work for the person that you're actually speaking to either.

Speaker A:

Instead, being willing to ask people questions to guide them back to themselves is where the true magic is.

Speaker A:

And a lot of times people aren't doing that.

Speaker A:

They're not giving you the feedback to help you go within yourself so you can find your own answers.

Speaker A:

So for me, when somebody asked me about meditation and how I meditate, I told them, you know, I can tell you how I meditate, but let's take it a step further.

Speaker A:

I'm pretty sure you already are going into meditative states and you might not realize it because you think it has to be done in a specific way that other people are telling you that they do it.

Speaker A:

I said, what works for them is not going to work for you.

Speaker A:

So answer some questions for me.

Speaker A:

And I started asking them.

Speaker A:

I said, what do you like to do to clear your mind?

Speaker A:

When do you feel the most at peace within yourself?

Speaker A:

Is it when you wash in the dishes?

Speaker A:

Is it when you playing basketball?

Speaker A:

Is it when you're sitting in silence?

Speaker A:

What is it for you?

Speaker A:

Because if you can figure out when do I feel the most at peace, regardless of what I'm doing, that's the key to what your meditative state might look like and how you can go deeper into that.

Speaker A:

It's not always crossing your legs.

Speaker A:

It's not always just focusing on your breath.

Speaker A:

It's going to look different for everybody.

Speaker A:

And so with social media and getting caught up in it, it's easy to lose yourself to other people's ideas and strategies and what they think and how they do things.

Speaker A:

But it's okay for you to go against their grain and and find your own flow.

Speaker A:

It's okay for you to do what works for you, even if it doesn't make sense to anybody else, because that's where your magic is.

Speaker A:

So for me, I had to take a couple months back so that I could sit back and reflect.

Speaker A:

That's what worked for me.

Speaker A:

And now I'm in a space where I feel ready to share again.

Speaker A:

And so hopefully, you know, this year is impactful for y'all and what's to come is impactful as well.

Speaker A:

I hope y'all have a happy New Year.

Speaker A:

And remember, trust yourself because you know more than you think you do.
